Nwachukwu Joins Rams in Time for Travels

Just before the start of Fordham's foreign tour to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, Coach Stephanie Gaitley has announced the addition of one more player to the Rams' roster for the upcoming season.

Mary Nwachukwu (Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth/St. John's) will use her final year of athletic eligibility to suit up at Rose Hill, where she will pursue her master's degree in business analytics.

"We are very excited to have Mary join our program this season," said Gaitley.  "She was a valuable member of St John's NCAA Tournament team and will gain valuable experience on our foreign tour.  Mary is an outstanding defender and will give us much needed size in our frontcourt."

Nwachukwu comes to Fordham after spending the past two years at nearby St. John's University in Queens, where she played in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments with the Red Storm and earned her undergraduate degree.  As a redshirt junior last year, Nwachukwu started 28 of the 29 contests in which she played, averaging 2.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.  The Dighton, Mass., native played 24.5 minutes per game for the Red Storm in 2012-2013, shooting nearly 38 percent from the floor.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2011-2012, Nwachukwu started 21 games for Coach Kim Barnes Arico, registering 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per outing.

Nwachukwu sat out the 2010-2011 season after transferring from Boston College.  In her lone season for the Eagles in 2009-2010, Nwachukwu saw action in 19 games, averaging 1.5 points per contest.

A former Adidas Top 100 player at Dighton-Rehoboth High School, Nwachukwu was the first player in school history to score more than 1,000 points (1,539).
